| One of my visits to western Florida, I always marveled at the contrast between the sky and the palms. They are beautiful leaves flowing and gentle. They are used to thatch roofs because they are so waterproof when layered. This is the edge of a thatched roof and goes along with the theme of one of the articles this month. Murphy's Law Recently, one of our web applications was thwarted by a Verizon switch gone bad. It occurred on a Friday night and we didn't Besides the loss in productivity over the weekend, it took more than 2 hours to ferret through the various possible organizations that might have been causing the issue. So even though there is fault tolerant computers, the connection was not fault tolerant. It proves the adage of Murphy's Law, if something can go wrong, it will go wrong. In the past we monitored our mission critical servers. We have now implemented enterprise wide monitoring looking at every server in our network or our clients network that is providing data remotely or via a web interface. If one of our client's computers goes down, we will know about it. If one of our clients loses Internet, we will know about it. In this world of many cooks in the kitchen, knowing is half the battle. iPad3 - What's All The Hoopla? So what is all the hype about the iPad 3. Oh my God!!! Where do I begin? Let's start with the fact that you can't see pixels It is amazingly sharp. Apple calls this a Retina display which means they claim that it matches what the eye can see. In other words, it looks realistically clear. Well it does. Drawing programs take 4 times as long. If you were painting on a 12" x 12" canvas, your canvas is now 24" x 24". Viewing pictures was great with the iPad2, but much better now. It is really significant! To go along with the new resolution is a better camera. A 5-megapixle camera takes near perfect pictures and also HD Video! The clarity and detail is really quite excellent. Although it is a bit awkward taking pictures or movies with the iPad, they have made it a bit easier by relocating the shoot button. Next, the iPad3 supports 4g. This might be more noticeable with Verizon service than AT&T because of the abysmal scope of AT&T's 4g network. Although not discussed, I have noticed that the screen is more responsive to my touch than the iPad2. This may be due to the new A5X chip in the iPad3. Lastly, the iPad3 takes dictation. I have tried it and it is quite good.

| Wireless Bandwidth With the onslaught of iPhones, iPads, smartphones and tablets, wireless bandwidth supplies are being threatened. Just like all our natural resources, the gluttony of our insatiable appetites is beginning to max out available wireless bandwidth. The Congress of the United States has actually taken some action and approved the auctioning of frequencies owned by television stations. Although it is not a requirement for broadcasters to sell their frequencies. But it is an opportunity which many will exercise. As part of the legislation, the sale of these frequencies will fund the establishment of a public safety network police and fire have been begging for since 9/11. Also in the cards is the development of a Super Wi-Fi network with increased capabilities which will most likely gobbled up by Google and Microsoft.
